How The Cooling Side Works

Ice silk is a smooth synthetic that moves heat away from the surface quickly, so it feels cool when a pet first lies down. It is a passive fabric, not a cooling gel or a powered mat: it will not keep a pet cool in a hot room and it is no help at all against real heat stress. For that you need shade, airflow, water and a cooler room.

Signs A Pet Is Too Hot

• Heavy panting that does not settle, bright red gums, drooling, wobbliness or vomiting.
• Flat-faced breeds, overweight pets and older pets overheat far faster than others.
• Heatstroke is an emergency. Cool the animal with water and get to a vet straight away -- do not wait to see if it improves.

Good To Know

• Wash the cover on a cool cycle and air dry it. Hot washes and tumble drying shrink the cover and flatten the filling, and a shrunken cover will not go back on.
• Wash bedding every week or two, more often for a dog with allergies or a skin condition. Bedding is where flea eggs and dust mites collect, so it matters more than most people expect.
• A bed is not a chew toy. Puppies and determined chewers will open a seam and swallow the filling, which is a genuine blockage risk, so supervise a new bed before you leave a pet alone with it.
• A cooling fabric is a comfort, not a safety device. It does not replace shade, water and a cool room.
• Ice silk is smooth and slippery. On a polished floor, put something under it so it does not slide.
• Not a children's toy. Keep it with the pet's things.
