Armitage Pet Care is a British pet products maker, and Good Boy is its best-known range. This page carries everything of theirs we stock, which runs wider than the Good Boy name suggests -- their cat range is branded Meowee, their bird cage liners Kagesan, and there is wild bird food and a small-pet treat under the Armitage name.

Good Boy: Dog Treats And Toys

  • Chewy meat treats -- fillets, strips, dumbbells and twists made with 100% natural chicken, duck, beef or venison breast meat, most at only 1 to 2% fat. Sold in small pouches and 320g or 350g value packs.
  • Chewy sticks and bones -- chicken or duck wrapped around carrot, sweet potato or a chew bone. Several of these are rawhide free; the Chewy Twists and Mega Twists are not. Each listing says which.
  • Superlicious -- over 60% chicken with superfood fruit and veg: apple and cranberry, or broccoli and sweet potato, as bones or sticks.
  • Oh So Natural -- air-dried apple, banana or carrot wrapped with chicken.
  • Crunchies and Deli Bites -- crunchy meaty chunks and soft bite-size pieces, both well suited to training.
  • Chompers dental chews -- meat-free daily dental sticks, a dinosaur shape and toothbrush chews in three breed sizes.
  • Tough & Tasty -- long-lasting chicken-coated chews sold as a rawhide alternative.
  • Toys -- Barkington plush, Threads rope and bungee tugs, Wild Tugs fabric animals with rope tails, a latex Snowman Lobber, and seasonal plush.
  • Gift boxes -- Back to School plus four Christmas boxes drawn from the Chewy, Deli, Oh So Natural and Superlicious ranges.

Meowee: For Cats

  • Treats -- chicken fillets with catnip, tuna fillet strips, freeze-dried chicken, crunchy Meat Cookies, Twister Sticks and Meat & Veg Bites.
  • Toys -- feather and fish teaser wands, a weighted catnip Wobbler, a laser mouse, a treat ball, a pop-up tent and a cardboard scratcher.

Kagesan And Wild Bird

  • Kagesan sanded cage sheets -- pre-cut liners in four sizes, including a round sheet for round-based cages. They make cleaning out quick and give a gritty surface underfoot.
  • Wild bird food -- whole peanuts and a no-mess, no-grow seed mix that leaves no husks under the feeder.
  • Nature's Nibbles honey sticks -- a seed and grain treat stick for rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

Rawhide: Which Products Contain It

Worth knowing before you buy, because it is the one thing that genuinely divides this range.

  • Contains rawhide: the Chewy Twists, the Jumbo Chewy Twists and the Mega Chewy Twists, where chicken or duck is wrapped around a rawhide centre.
  • Rawhide free: the Chewy Bones Wrapped with Chicken, and the chicken or duck sticks with carrot or sweet potato.
  • Sold as a rawhide alternative: the Tough & Tasty chews.
  • With any rawhide chew, stay in the room and take it away once it has softened or gone small enough to swallow whole. That is where the choking and blockage risk sits.

How Treats Fit Into The Day

Treats should be no more than about a tenth of what your dog or cat eats in a day, with the rest of their food coming down to make room. It is the one rule that stops treats quietly turning into a weight problem, and it is easier to break than most people expect.

Good To Know

  • Armitage state that none of these treats suit puppies under four months.
  • Reseal pouches after opening and store them cool and dry. Several packs contain a deoxidiser sachet -- throw it away and never feed it.
  • Many of the treat pouches are packed in a facility that handles nuts and peanuts, which matters if anyone in the household has an allergy.
  • Supervise your pet with any chew, and always keep fresh drinking water available.
  • Soft plush toys are for cuddling and gentle play, not for heavy chewers. Replace one once it is damaged and pick up any loose stuffing straight away.
  • Dental chews help with soft plaque but do not remove tartar that has already hardened. If you can see brown at the gumline, that is a vet job.
