Description
JBL Replacement Lamp UV-C 18 W is the replacement UV-C tube for JBL's 18 watt clarifiers. The tube is the part of a UV-C unit that wears out: the housing, sleeve and fittings outlast several lamps.
Key Features
- 18 watt UV-C tube: a direct replacement for the lamp in a matching JBL UV-C clarifier.
- Clears green and white cloudiness: JBL describes the tube's job as removing the greenish and whitish cloudiness caused by free-floating algae and bacteria.
- Germicidal wavelength: JBL gives the figure as 255 nm, the range that acts on algae cells and bacteria in the water.
- No effect on water values: JBL states it changes neither the water parameters nor the bacteria in the filter.
- Do not touch the glass: JBL notes that handling the tube with bare fingers shortens its service life.
- Replace on a schedule: output falls away gradually, so a working lamp is not automatically an effective one.
Good To Know
- Never touch the glass with bare fingers. JBL is explicit about this: skin oils on the tube shorten its life.
- Never run the lamp outside its housing and never look at it lit. UV-C burns eyes and skin without feeling hot.
- Switch the unit off at the mains and let it cool before you open it to change the tube.
- Clean the quartz sleeve while the unit is open. A new lamp behind a limescaled sleeve is wasted, and tap water here scales glass quickly.
- UV-C tubes lose output long before they stop lighting. Replacing one roughly once a year of continuous running is the usual advice, and a tube that still glows is not necessarily still working.
- Dispose of the old tube properly rather than in household waste.
- Match the wattage, the socket type and the tube length to your own unit before ordering. The wattage on the box does not identify a lamp on its own, and JBL has used different sockets across the range.
