The Ceva Feliway Optimum Diffuser Starter Kit for Cats is the starter kit for Feliway Optimum, Ceva's most recent pheromone formula: one plug-in diffuser head plus a 48 ml vial. It is the version that covers the widest set of stress signs, including tension between cats.

How To Use

• Plug the diffuser into a wall socket in the room where your cat spends most of their time, vents facing up.
• Leave it running 24 hours a day. Switching it off and on breaks the effect.
• Replace the refill every 30 days, and the diffuser head itself every 6 months.
• One diffuser covers roughly 50-70 m2 (about 700 sq ft) of open space. Closed doors block it, so a separate bedroom or a second floor usually needs its own unit.

Good To Know

• Optimum is not a straight upgrade for everyone. If your only problem is one cat scratching or spraying, Feliway Classic covers that for less. Optimum is worth the difference when there are several problems at once, or tension between cats.
• UAE mains is 220-240 V through UK-style three-pin sockets. Ceva's own label says to use the diffuser on 230-240 V only and never with an extension cord, adapter or voltage converter, and Ceva also sells a 110 V version of the same product for the US market. Check the plug on the unit you receive before you use it, and contact us if it is not the 230-240 V type.
• Ceva's instruction is to always plug the diffuser in with the vents facing up. Plugged in sideways or upside-down it can leak, and Ceva warns of a fire risk. The plug rotates so it still works in a horizontal socket.
• Leave about 1.2 m (4 ft) of clear space around the diffuser. Never plug it in under a shelf or behind a door, curtain or furniture - it stops the pheromone spreading and traps the heat.
• The diffuser gets warm while it is running. Ceva states this is normal and is what evaporates the liquid.
• Ceva states on the pack that this is not a sedative or a tranquilliser. It does not make a pet drowsy - it changes how secure the room feels to them.
• Feliway copies a feline pheromone. Ceva states that only cats can detect it - people and dogs are not affected by it.
• Ceva's own wording on the pack is that all cats are unique and results vary depending on other pets in the home and other environmental factors.
• Give it time. Ceva's own studies run over a full month, so plug it in and leave it running for at least 30 days before deciding whether it is helping.
• It will not fix an underlying problem on its own. Litter tray numbers and placement, enough separate food, water and resting spots, gradual introductions and proper training all still matter - the pheromone makes that work easier, it does not replace it.
• Keep out of reach of children, and plug it in somewhere a pet cannot knock it or chew the cable.
• The rule of thumb for a multi-cat home is one litter tray per cat plus one spare, in separate places, with separate food, water and resting spots. A diffuser will not make up for a shortage of those.
• Straining in the litter tray, crying, or passing little or no urine is an emergency in cats, especially males - see a vet straight away rather than reaching for a diffuser.
• A pheromone is environmental support, not a diagnosis. A pet that suddenly starts spraying, hiding, over-grooming or becoming fearful may be in pain or unwell, so have a vet rule that out first.
